Early Detection

  • Childhood is a vital and valuable stage in human life. It lays foundations for many aspects of personal development such as the physical, emotional, moral, social and educational aspects
  • Early detection refers to the process of screening infants in the early stages of life, because of brain neuro-plasticity
  • The period from birth to 3 Years is considered as the critical period for the development for normal speech and language, hence early detection and appropriate intervention within this span of years facilitate language acquisition

Aural Rehabilitation

  • It’s a process of identifying and diagnosing a hearing loss, providing different types of therapies & amplification devices to aid the clients hearing abilities
  • It includes specific procedures in which each therapy & amplification device has its goal the habilitation or rehabilitation of persons to overcome the disability caused by hearing loss or deafness

Our Technical Department

  • HOPE has been provided with supportive services in terms of enduring its audiological services from the early detection process to Aural rehabilitation of hearing impaired individuals which includes screening, diagnosis and fitting of suitable amplificatory devices with scheduled periodic reviews
  • HOPE implements its services by using well equipped instruments and testing tools with latest technologies such as OAE for screening of hearing loss in infants and various tests like PTA, BOA, IMPIDENCE etc., with experienced and certified audiologists

Early Intervention

Admission for children from birth to 2 ½ years is given in the Early Intervention program. The children attend the Program from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm Monday through Saturday.

One parent of the child attends the classes along with the child, as the school strongly believes that the parents are the first educators in the child’s life and they are equal partners of the teachers at school, in fostering the child’s progress. The parents are shown ways and means to utilize the everyday situations and activities at home, towards developing language and speech skills in the child

In cases where both the parents are not able to be the caregiver a relative of the child like a grand-parent or aunt takes the role of the caregiver

Pre School

Once the children complete the Early Intervention program they are moved to the pre- school program. The age of the children in the pre-school program ranges from 2 ½ to 6 years. There is no direct admission into Pre-school except for some cases

Pre-School functions from 9.30 am to 3.30 pm – Monday to Saturday

The children are helped to further develop their Auditory, Receptive language and Expressive Language skills. They are also helped to develop Readiness skills in Number Concepts, Reading, and Writing

Outreach Program

The Outreach Program functions separately. The program caters to children under the following categories

The Children in the Outreach program are also trained for Integration. Under this program the parents are skilled to prepare the child at home accordingly
This program has flexible timings as per the convenience of the parents & special educators

Guidance and Counseling

The parents are equal partners in the program.
Regular meetings are held to help them.
They are guided to convert every situation at home into a language situation
They are trained to become the RESOURCE PERSONS for their child once the child joins the mainstream. The parents are encouraged to be in close touch with the school even after the child joins the mainstream
This enables the school extend so that the child’s progress is smooth in the mainstream

Infrastructure

HOPE is located in Gandhi Nagar, K. G. Halli, Bengaluru Urban, Karnataka, INDIA.
We at HOPE provide sound treated classrooms

HOPE is well equipped with 3 sound treated classrooms with individual spacious seating arrangements, clean surroundings, and child friendly furniture accompanied by teaching aids

HOPE has a diagnostic center in the school is equipped with sophisticated equipments to diagnose hearing loss in children, fit them with suitable hearing aids, check the performance of the hearing aids and check the middle ear function of children
To begin with the teacher student ratio is 1:1 and soon the children are grouped and the ratio is maintained as 1:4

Methodology

The parents are equal partners in the program.
HOPE has adapted its syllabus & methodology from BALAVIDYALAYA Chennai, that includes the parents as equal partners in the scheme. The methodology is named as
DHVANI’ – acronym of ‘Development of Hearing, Voice and Natural Integration’

DHVANI is an intensive language scheme that uses Best Practices in Early Childhood Education to help infants and young children acquire age appropriate language and speech skills
DHVANI Teaching Learning Materials are sequential and they bring about a holistic development of the child’s personality at an early age that is an invaluable investment for their future

Teaching Aids

HOPE has bought the DHVANI Teaching –Learning Materials (Kit 1 & 2) from BALAVIDYALAYA
No formal text books are followed in school. All learning is activity based. DHVANI TLMs develop various skills in the children. The outgoing students of HOPE are able to express themselves fluently, read and write sentences independently and are comfortable with number concepts. They exhibit functional independence and confidence in their social skills

AVT (Audio verbal Therapy)

The child’s hearing is assessed on admission and regularly mentioned there-after throughout their life with us at HOPE. Based on their audiogram reports, audiological investigation and speech and language assessments, appropriate hearing aids are recommended

Using the child’s appropriately amplified residual hearing, he or she is trained over the years to speak and hear using various specialist techniques of auditory and verbal therapy

Parental Involvement

Parental involvement acts as a valuable recourse in underlining child’s strength and further growth and upliftment.
Assess the parent’s involvement during the class hours, to observe and implement the same in intensive home training

Team of HOPE

A team consists of special-educators, audiologist speech therapists, psychologists, who evaluate the child’s linguistic skills for assessment and evaluation of child educational improvement

Social Awareness

The organization provides varieties of informative activities aiming to building positive attitude towards the early intervention and its positive effects on integrating and empowering children with hearing disabilities.

Future Plans

By the will of the Almighty, we plan to have an expanded early intervention school accommodating at least 100 children in the premises
To identify kids with Hearing impaired at an early stage and to rehabilitate, counsel, using the importance of critical age

Staff

The child friendly and learner centric DHVANI Methodology is implemented with care by the team of qualified and trained staff from BALAVIDYALAYA,Chennai. They are trained in the Diploma In Early Childhood Special Education- in Hearing Impairment(DECSE-HI), recognized by the RCI New Delhi and the Government of Tamilnadu.
Currently there is 3 experienced and trained staff that provides services to students with the purpose of raising the level of listening & speech skills and grooming them into mainstream.
Individual attention is given to children allowing them to reach their full potential intellectually, socially and emotionally. Children are allowed to develop at their own pace. Regular observation along with continuous Assessments using the DHVANI Assessment Cards which are also adapted from BALAVIDYALAYA and DHVANI KEYS provides a detailed picture of each student’s progress

Research & Development

The Research and Development is an ongoing program. We at HOPE are flexible for welcoming new inventions such as enhanced amplification, new technologies, improved teaching- techniques, teaching aids etc
